D&C 11:9 The joy that has come from seeing lives changed and individuals join the Church, who had their first exposure to the Church through The Book of Mormon Movie, has been overwhelming. We have had just a slight "taste" of what can be accomplished through a movie on the Book of Mormon. However, we haven't even scratched the surface! It has become abundantly clear that substantially more money and resources need to be devoted to the next installments. The "masterpieces" envisioned by President Kimball and President Benson that will "cover the whole earth, " will require an entirely different approach. During General Conference in 1988, President Ezra Taft Benson stated; "The time is long overdue for a massive flooding of the earth with the Book of Mormon for the many reasons which the Lord has given. In this age of the electronic media and the mass distribution of the printed word, God will hold us accountable if we do not now move the Book of Mormon in a monumental way. We have the Book of Mormon, we have the members, we have the missionaries, we have the resources, and the world has the need. The time is now!" I have pondered those words over and over again. I have seen how one movie has "opened doors" to the Book of Mormon for many people. The Lord has provided certain opportunities for me and I believe He will hold me accountable unless I do all that I can to further the work that has been started. After spending many months consulting with potential donors, attorney's, tax consultants, and other advisors, it was felt that the best way to accomplish these goals was to establish a nonprofit company for the sole purpose of helping to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through a series of motion pictures on the Book of Mormon. As a result, The Book of Mormon Movie Foundation, a Utah nonprofit corporation, was recently established.
Under the new structure nobody will make a profit from The Book of Mormon Movie, but perhaps that's the way it should have been from the beginning. A nonprofit corporation will provide many advantages that could not be achieved through a traditional for-profit company. I can think of no better way to spend the rest of my working life than to help promote the Book of Mormon through a series of motion pictures.
